Turu is a Pteranodon that carries off people in South America.
Physical appearance[]
Turu is a Pteranodon, a type of pterosaur, a prehistoric flying reptile. Turu's wings are black on the outside, with a purple underwing. It's belly is a darker shade of purple. It has a yellow beak.
Personality[]
It's aggressive, and captures any native it sees. It's also totally obedient, responding to Deen's commands, such as "In, Turu, in," and "Kill, Turu, kill!"
History[]
In South America, Turu grabs Nuago out of a canoe and carries him off. Nuago's brother Aku is in the canoe with him, and he tells the Quest Team about the incident. Turu and Trinoxide, a special metal that Dr. Quest is looking into, come from the same place, so the Quest Team heads upriver to investigate. Turu circles their camp that night, but doesn't grab any of them.
Turu returns to a cave where Deen consoles him, telling him, "Don't feel badly because you failed. You will hunt the intruders tomorrow." The old man pats Turu gently on the head. Turu has been capturing natives, forcing them to work for the old man to mine the caves for Trinoxide, which Deen thinks is silver. Turu also prevents any of the enslaved men from escaping.
Turu later attacks Dr. Quest and Race when they come to investigate, and Race shoots Turu with a bazooka. He injures Turu, who falls into a tar pit and begins to sink. As he does, Deen rushes over in his wheelchair and tries to save Turu, but they both end up sinking into the tar pit and dying. Despite their actions, especially since Turu was just an animal and was trained to kill, Quest and Race take pity on him and Deen, wishing they could've saved them, but there was no chance.
Notes/trivia[]
- "Turu" means "bird" in the local native language, according to Dr. Quest.
- Turu appears in The Venture Bros. episode 5.02 Venture Libre, where he also dies.
- Turu is often mistakenly referred to as a pterodactyl by fans, but it is only referred to as a Pteranodon in the episode.
