Trinoxide is a metal needed for the USA space program. There are mines around the world, but Dr. Quest is looking for a purer source in South America.
History[]
The brothers Aku and Nuago find a metal sample and give it to Dr. Quest, who confirms that it's trinoxide. The Quest Team later learns from Aku that Nuago has been grabbed by Turu, and that Turu and the trinoxide sample are from the same place upriver. The Quest Team charters a riverboat to look for them both.
An old man has mistaken the trinoxide for silver, and he's been using Turu to kidnap locals and force them to mine it for him. When Dr. Quest is able to see the trinoxide they've been mining, he confirms that it's the purest trinoxide ore he's ever seen, and that "this find will save years in the space race." The Quest Team defeats Turu and the old man, freeing the enslaved locals in the process, and providing Dr. Quest with the source of the trinoxide that he needs.
