Tim Matheson, originally credited as Tim Mathieson, is an American actor who voiced Jonny Quest in the original 1960s TV series.
Overview[]
Tim Matheson auditioned for the show Quest File in 1963 when he was fifteen years old. Joseph Barbera met him at the studio and recorded the audition with him. Three months later, in 1964 when Matheson was sixteen, he was selected for the role of Jonny Quest. According to Matheson, this was "the most monumental thing that had yet happened in [his] life." Jonny Quest paid $135 an episode.[1]
Matheson notably went on to portray Vice President John Hoynes in the TV series The West Wing (1999-2006), Dr. Vernon Mullins in the Netflix series Virgin River (2019-2024), and Eric Stratton in the film National Lampoon's Animal House (1978).
Matheson returned to Jonny Quest to voice the AI 4-DAC in the 1995 telefilm Jonny Quest Versus the Cyber Insects, and to voice the President of the United States in the 2015 film Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest.
