The House of Seven Gargoyles is the twenty-third episode of the 1960's Jonny Quest.

Premise[]

The Quest team go to Norway to see a new anti-gravity device, but spies are in the midst.

Synopsis[]

In Norway, at Raklev Castle, one of the seven gargoyle statues comes to live and slides down on a pole and spies on Gunter Erikson. He hides as Gunnar comes in to tell him that Dr. Quest is coming over, Professor Erikson is happy about the news and wants to show Dr. Quest on what he has accomplish. As Gunnar leaves, the Gargoyle attack Professor Erikson but Gargoyles flees as Gunnar enters the room. As Professor Erikson gets up, he sees his notes still in the safe but his worry that someone might still steal them. Later, the Gargoyle known as Dietrich goes to a cemetery to meet with his boss Ivar who is mad at him for not getting the Erikson's notes but Dietrich informs that Dr. Quest is coming to see him.

Ivar then sents him out and tells him not to return until he has Erikson's notes. Meanwhile, Dr. Quest, Race, Hadji, and Jonny are down river and talking about Rakley Castle and the Legends surrounding it. Jonny and Bandit spot a seal and then a periscope but it goes down. The Quest Team are then pick up by Gunnar and taken to the castle, upon arriving Bandit is barking at the statues until Dietrich moves trying to wave the bird which caught Jonny's attention but no one believes him. Inside, Professor Erikson presents the Quest team's invention: Erikon which allows him to lift the ball in the air as they watch.

Unaware, Dietrich is spying on them, Bandit spots him and runs inside and gets caught on the ball but Erikson turns off Ericon to get Bandit down. As Professor Erikson fears that someone will still tried to steal his invention and notes for their own greed, Race decides to steal in Erikson's room and Bandit will guard the lab while Erikson and Gunnar will go check the glaciers profess. That night, Dietrich sneaks into the castle to get the key to the safe while Race was asleep, Race wakes up and fights him. He throws the keys to Bandit who takes but accidentally leaves them as Dietrich takes them. Dr. Quest, Jonny, Hadji, and Professor Erikson wake up and inform that a Gargoyle is alive and has the keys to the safe.

While Jonny and Hadji put out the fires that Dietirch started, Race, Dr. Quest, and Professor Erikson head to the lab where Dietrich decides to steal the Ericon instead of getting the notes. Dietrich return to the cemetery to give the Ericon to Ivar but Ivar still demands him to get his notes, which angers Dietrich as he threatens him. Back at the castle, while Professor Erikson and the Quest Team search for the Ericon, Ivar shoots and kills Dietrich from afar. His screams alert the Quest and Erikson, they find Dietrich lying on the ground and unmask by Race, Erikson recognizes him as Dietrich Sorenson and wonders how he got involved until he realizes Ivar is trying to steal his secrets. Race and Dr. Quest take Erikson's helicopter to stop Ivar who has gone down river in the Quest's cruiser.

They spot the submarine under the Graciers, the two fire at the helicopter but Ivar tells them to stop as the gun shots cause the Graciers to land and crush them. Though they failed to get the Ericon back, Professor Erikson said he build a new one, and he gives the Quest team a Gargoyle statue as a souvier. As Gunnar drives them to the docks, Hadji claims he saw it move but Jonny believes he was just seeing things.

Notes/trivia[]

  • Lance Falk, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest season 2 writer and fan of the original series, brought back Erikson for the episode General Winter. He also the idea of Erikson's anti-gravity technology to be the science behind the how the Jonny's hoverboard works in the latter series, although never mentioned onscreen.
