In a building with one room filled with enclosures has a man with a list. A bird is seen visibly in one cage, while the rest are not. When the man opens a green door by pushing a button, something terrifying is seen inside and crashing is heard. As the man closes the door back, he heads to the emergency caller for help.
Man: (speaking Chinese)
Crashing continues, the door loosens.
Man: (speaking Chinese)
As he drops the caller and runs, the crashing continues until the door breaks. Then, a large, red claw pokes out! As it moves back, the creature is revealed to be a giant, red crab! In his office, the man takes a gun out of his drawer and aims nervously. As the crab breaks in, he shoots the giant crustacean, but the bullets can't pierce through its tough shell. After running out of bullets, the man heads through another hallway to escape. The crab then looks at the audience as the camera zooms in. Making its other way to escape, it breaks through a wall and finds itself outside with several Chinese houses. A guard is seen doing his usual duty as the crab's shadow approaches. As it looms over the guard, he noticed the claw-shaped shadow and turns around to see the crab right in front of him! As the crab opens one of its pincers and menaces him, the guard shoots the crab with gun, but the crab breaks in two with its claw. As the man tries to run, the crab reaches over and grabs him by his rear end. The man screams in terror as the crab pulls him away off-screen and kills him. As three more guards shoot the crab from a distance, the crab makes its way to the shore into the sea. It slowly heads down to the sea and disappears from sight, heading back to its native habitat.
Hong Kong[]
The Quest Team are being transported with two pedicabs.
Dr. Quest: Hong Kong's a great city. Isn't it, Race?
Race: Yeah. It's a great city, alright. But I sure wish they'd fix their streets.
Dr. Quest: Well, I guess we've seen enough for one day. We'll head back. (to the driver) 宋农福伊 (Sòngnóngfú yī)
As the driver takes them, Jonny is seen in his pedicab and now he's the driver, while the original driver gets his ride.
Jonny: (pulling the brakes) I can't! They won't work! Hang on!
As Hadji and the driver look in horror, all three head fast in the docks and eventually fall in the sea.
Hydrofoil[]
The team are now in their hydrofoil, while the boys are looking ill, wrapped in blankets.
Jonny: Ah... ah... ah... ah-choo!
Hadji: Ah... ah... ah... ah... ah-choo!
Dr. Quest: Better step on it, Race, so we can get them into some dry clothes.
Race: Right, Doctor.
He speeds up the boat until they finally made it to their schooner.
Schooner[]
Hadji and Jonny dry themselves, while Dr. Quest looks unhappy and Bandit watches.
Jonny: I'm sorry, Dad.
Hadji: Me too.
Dr. Quest: Being sorry isn't enough. Your prank means repairing or replacing one pedicab and placating the driver. You're confined to your quarters till further notice.
Jonny: Oh, gee... You mean we'll miss the Chinese New Year's celebration?
Dr. Quest: We'll see... we'll see...
Celebration[]
A Chinese dragon is present in the parade, while everyone watches. A hand holding a twirling flag appears briefly, then moves away. The dragon approaches the Quest Team.
Hadji: Wow, what a scary dragon!
Jonny: It sure is. (covers his ears) Oh boy, its noise! Sounds like the 4th of July.
Bandit notices a firecracker has fallen on the ground. He approaches it as it pops, startling him. A bundle of them appear as Bandit growls at it.
Dr. Quest: Uh-oh.
Race: Bandit, drop it. You'll get hurt!
Jonny: Hey, no, Bandit! Drop 'em!
As Bandit picks the firecrackers, he shakes them until they all off the string. Now, they're around him!
Hadji: Come here!
Jonny: Get away from there, hurry!
The firecrackers explode one by one, startling Bandit.
Jonny: That'll teach ya.
Hadji: I don't think he likes firecrackers.
As Bandit runs, he stumbles across another firecracker. He moves just away in time just as it explodes. He jumps right in Jonny's arms.
Hadji: What a leap! Right into your arms.
Jonny: Golly, Bandit, I didn't know you could jump so high.
Bandit whimpers.
Dr. Quest: (looking at his watch) Let's go, boys. Time to have some dinner.
Restaurant[]
The team are eating some Chinese food, while two customers sit nearby.
Hadji: Boy, this is good!
Jonny: It sure is! I was starved!
Photographer: Excuse me. You like I take picture? Make very fine souvenir.
Race: Sure, why not? Shoot.
Bandit barks with delight and gets into view.
Race: Will you look at that ham? He can smell a camera a mile away.
Photographer: Hold it, please. (takes a snapshot) The picture will be ready shortly.
Another room[]
The photographer secretly is talking to someone outside.
Photographer: Hoisin, quickly. (looks around to see no one watching) The picture.
She pokes the photo out the window to show Hoisin and his partner someone they're looking for.
Photographer: (speaking Chinese mostly) ...Dr. Quest.
She points the image of Dr. Quest in the picture. Hoisin grins evilly and nods, including his partner. He gives the picture back to the photographer, who smiles wickedly and bends the photo.
Schooner[]
The boys are in bed with the photo, folded like a card, on the floor for Bandit to see.
Jonny: Come on, Bandit. Time to stop admiring your picture and get to sleep.
Hadji: Yes, and don't keep us awake tonight with your snoring.
They laugh playfully as Bandit looks annoyed.
Jonny: Good night, Hadji.
Hadji: Good night, Jonny. And Happy New Year.
The lights turn off and Bandit closes his eyes to sleep too.
Act 2[]
Later that night, two men in orange wetsuits slowly push their speedboat in the water and reach the schooner. One quietly gets on board and sees a door. At first, we see the boys and Bandit in their room, then Race's, and finally Dr. Quest's. The door opens from the man, leading it to his room. As the shadow looms over the sleeping Quest, the latter suddenly opens his eyes slightly and then widens them up. Startled by who he sees, he was about to do something until the man covers his mouth with his hand or he'll scream for help. At the same time, Bandit wakes up and growls in aggression, which awakens Hadji.
Hadji: Jonny, Jonny.
Jonny: Huh?
Hadji: What's wrong with Bandit?
Jonny: Oh, he's probably having a nightmare, dreaming about those firecrackers.
Hadji: Yeah, that must be it. (Bandit continues growling) Go to sleep, Bandit.
In Race's room, Race is still asleep until the slightest sound of the speedboat wakes him up immediately. He looks through the porthole to see the speedboat with the two men taking off Dr. Quest! Next, we see Race, the boys and Bandit in Quest's room with a note.
Jonny: But what happened to Dad?
Race: I don't know.
Hadji: Shouldn't we call the police?
Race: No, Hadji. That's just what we can't do. Read this.
He hands the note to Hadji.
Hadji: (reading the note) "Do not call police or Doctor Quest DIE!"
Jonny: What can we do then?
Race: You boys stay aboard. I think I know where we can get some answers.
He leaves.
Hydrofoil[]
Race takes the hydrofoil. He stops next to a large Chinese ship.
Jade's ship[]
Aboard the ship, Race and Jade have tea.
Jade: Race, you're not very complimentary. You've been in Hong Kong three days, and the first time I see you is when Dr. Quest gets himself kidnapped. Do you think I had something to do with it?
Race: No, Jade. I didn't say that. But you'd never turn down an opportunity to add to your bank account. We both know that.
Jade: I have expensive taste, Race, but I almost never kidnap my friends... for money, that is.
Race: Okay, so you had nothing to do with it. But not much happens around here that you don't know about. And I want Dr. Quest back alive and unharmed. Now, how about it?
Jade: Okay, Race. I'll lend a hand. But not for old times sake. It'll be expensive.
Race: It figures.
Jade: I told you I have expensive taste. Give me an hour.
Race: One hour. I'll be back. Oh, and Jade...
Jade: Race. Would I double-cross an old friend?
She leaves as Race looks on.
Hong Kong[]
Jade drives in Hong Kong to find people if they know Dr. Quest's whereabouts. She meets an old man who doesn't know where Quest is.
Old man: (speaking Chinese)
Jade drives through again and meets a salesman, who has no idea where Quest is.
Salesman: (speaking Chinese)
Then, she stops by an apartment to meet with a petty informant, who is a petty criminal.
Informant: Honest, Jade, I got a really bad memory. I can't remember nothin'.
Jade takes cash from her purse and hands it to him.
Jade: Will this help your memory?
Informant: Now, that's real strange. It's beginning to come back to me. There was a snatch tonight but... I don't know. It's gettin' hazy again.
Jade: (offers more cash) Perhaps more of this will blow the haze away.
Informant: (catches the dollar bills) Yeah, well, it helps. Ah, yeah. Chu Sing Ling.
Jade: What about Chu Sing Ling?
Informant: Well, he... gee I think it's gettin' hazy again.
Jade points a gun at him.
Informant: No, it's gettin' clear! Chu Sing Ling is entertaining Dr. Quest at Moitu Island.
Jade: Why?
Informant: I don't know baby, honest. I'm telling you all I know. Quest is with Chu Sing Ling right now.
Moitu Island[]
In a lab, Dr. Quest sits at a desk looking at notes. Chu Sing Ling and a guard are present.
Dr. Quest: Impossible.
Chu Sing Ling: Oh, come now, Dr. Quest. Intelligent scientists such as yourself never uses the word "impossible." And besides, I have the proof.
Dr. Quest: Proof?
Dr. Chu: Certainly! I am not talking theory, Doctor, I am talking fact. Watch.
He turns the switch on a device latched onto a wall. Two doors open to show two cages holding his two creations: a giant, black, chittering spider, and a giant, green, growling lizard.
Dr. Chu: You cannot deny what your eyes can see.
Dr. Quest: Incredible!
Dr. Chu: Yes! Incredible, but still a fact. Look, Dr. Quest.
He opens up a small box containing a normal spider.
Dr. Chu: Arachnid Araneidae, a common spider. One exposure to my bacteria, and this little fellow will grow as large as his, uh, brother in that cage. Who, by the way, is still growing.
Dr. Quest: Surely, Dr. Chu, you realize the hazard you are creating?
Dr. Chu: Oh quite, Dr. Quest, quite.
Dr. Quest: Your bacteria has the potential destruction power of the atom bomb.
Dr. Chu: Right again, Doctor.
We now see a set of tanks in the lab.
Dr. Quest: And you're not taking the proper precautions. The residue from your bacteria culture tanks is draining into those marshes and contaminating the sea. Who can tell what monsters you're breeding out there?
Dr. Chu: That is one of the problems you have been brought here to solve.
Dr. Quest: Meaning what?
Dr. Chu: Meaning, Doctor, control of the growth cells. I must have the answer, I must know.
Dr. Quest: And you must realize I can have nothing to do with your mad scheme.
Dr. Chu: I understand your refusal, Doctor. And I am prepare to persuade you to change your mind.
The lizard and spider continue to growl and screech.
Dr. Quest: Nothing you could think of would make me change my mind.
Dr. Chu: You will change. Do not forget Dr. Quest. My people invented the art of persuasion.
He turns the switch back to close the cages.
Jade's ship[]
Race knocks on the door and it's opened by Kallum, a friend of Jade.
Kallum: Ah, Monsieur Bannon. Miss Jade, uh, not here.
Race: Well, she was to return in an hour. Now where is she?
Kallum: She come back, leave note for you. Then, she go.
Race: (looks at the note) "Will deliver Quest. Relax... the price is right." (to Kallum) Alright, now where'd she go, Kallum?
Kallum: Kallum not tell.
Race: But you must tell me. Jade is in great danger. You can trust me, Kallum.
Kallum: Ms. Jade go...
Race: Yes, yes?
Kallum: Moitu Island.
Race: Moitu Island. Thanks Kallum. And don't worry, I'll bring her back.
Kahloom watches him leave on his speedboat.
Schooner[]
Race returns on the hydrofoil.
Jonny: Race, Race, what did you find out? Any news?
Race: Yes, bad news. Your father is being held on an island, south of here. I'm going after him.
Jonny: Well, I'm going with you.
Hadji: And I.
Race: No, it's too risky. Sorry boys. Now gas up the hydrofoil while I pick up some gear.
Jonny: (disappointed) Aye aye, sir.
He and Hadji look at each, unhappy. Race leaves on the hydrofoil.
Moitu Island[]
The doors of the enclosure open again to show the lizard and spider. Dr. Quest is now tied up.
Dr. Chu: You still don't care for my pets, Dr. Quest?
Dr. Quest: This is mad, Chu. Release me and we'll destroy these monsters before it's too late.
Dr. Chu: No, Doctor, they will live, but you will die if you do not decide to cooperate. I will give you three hours to change your mind.
Dr. Quest: I won't be changing my mind, Chu. In three hours or in three years.
He turns to see the lizard growling.
Dr. Chu: The bars to these cages can be opened automatically.
The spider tries to break through his cage.
Dr. Chu: I will set the automatic control for three hours. (he turns the switch) When you've decide to cooperate, just call the guard who will be outside this door, and you will be released.
Dr. Quest: You already have my answer. You're mad, Chu. Mad!
Dr. Chu: Very well, then die the death your stubbornness demands. The choice is yours.
Quest turns to see the spider trying to get out, while the lizard growls.
Hydrofoil[]
Race reaches Moitu Island.
Race: Alright boys, we're here. Jonny, Hadji, we're here, you can come out now. (the boys uncover themselves) You too, Bandit.
Bandit emerges and barks.
Hadji: How did you know we were here?
Jonny: Yeah, Race, we didn't make a sound.
Race: You pulled this stowaway bit so often I've come to expect it. Besides, I know how you feel.
Jonny: We just wanted to help.
Race: I know. Well, I'm glad you're here.
Hadji: Yeah?
Race: Sure, I can use you.
Jonny: How?
Race: To stay here and guard the boat. And keep out of trouble.
The boys frown.
Act 3[]
Moitu Island[]
Race, with a gun, hides behind a tree when a second giant crab appears, growling. As he watches, the giant crab turns back to its direction. Then, a second giant spider appears screeching and heads to the crab's direction. All of a sudden, the crab and spider start clashing with each other violently.
Race: (shocked) I just don't believe it!
As the crab and spider continue fighting, the cries carry for miles.
Hadji: Gosh, what is that noise?
Jonny: I don't know, but it sure sounds awful. (Bandit whimpers) Shh, quiet Bandit.
Hadji: I think he is worried about Race.
Bandit whimpers more.
Jonny: Quiet, Bandit! (Bandit leaves) Bandit, Bandit, come back here!
Hadji: Bandit!
Bandit continues running.
Jonny: Come on, Hadji.
Hadji: But Race said...
Jonny: Look, Hadji, Dad's in there somewhere. Race has gone in, and now Bandit's gone. I can't just stay here and do nothing.
Hadji: Okay, let's go.
He follows him.
Village[]
Race finds a village in the island with two guards on lookout duty. As they look around, Race managed to sneak by and hides next to a house. He takes a Chinese coin out of his pocket and throws it at the guards. Seeing the coin, they both grab it with their hands together. Race then kicks the green guard's rear end and his head crashes into the blue guard's. Both become dazed and make funny smiles as they fall unconscious. Race picks the coin, tosses it, and puts it back in his pocket. He finds three guards in a cabin and sees three playing cards and one is the lookout. When Race got closer and peeks at the window, the lookout noticed him!
Lookout: (speaking Chinese)
He shoots through the window, but misses due to Race ducking. Race then shoots some beams supporting a water tower. As it falls, the guards who are now outside see the tower fall. They scream in terror as they are crushed to death, while the water washes their bodies away. Another guard shoots, which alarms Race. When he shoots back, the guard evades. Race then shoots his bullets at a bulldozer, causing the bullets to bounce off diagonally to head to the guard's direction. Having been shot by the bullets, the guard reappears and falls dead.
Hadji: The shots came from those buildings.
Jonny: Sounds like Race is taking on a whole army. Let's go!
Hadji: Wait, look!
They duck down in the tall grass to see the second crab, appearing to have won its fight with the spider.
Hadji: I'm having a nightmare, and I'm not even asleep.
Bandit is heard barking.
Jonny: It's Bandit, he's over there!
They see Bandit hiding in the bulldozer.
Jonny: Come on, Hadji!
Soon, a group of guards speaking gibberish Chinese pass on a jeep, while the boys and Bandit with his mouth covered hide.
Jonny: We've got to help Race!
Hadji: I know, but how?
Jonny: The bulldozer.
Hadji: Can you drive one?
Jonny: I don't know, I've never tried.
Race hides next to a building and pulls a grenade's pin for the approaching guards. When he comes out of hiding, he puts his hands up as the guards stop. As they confront Race, he tosses the grenade into one's hands, shocking them. When he hides, the grenade explodes, killing the guards and destroying the jeep.
Lab[]
Dr. Quest: Sounds like you're having trouble out there.
Dr. Chu: But too late to save you, Dr. Quest! You have five minutes before those cages open to change your mind! They seem anxious, don't they?
Dr. Quest: You're wasting your time, Chu. I won't change my mind.
Bulldozer[]
Race tries to break through a fence's lock. He turns to see the boys and Bandit on the bulldozer.
Hadji: One side, Race, we're coming through.
Race: Be my guests. (the bulldozer crashes through the fence) Good work, boys. Now take bulldozer down by the pier where you'll be safe. That's an order.
Jonny: Right, Race.
He backs up the bulldozer.
Rescue[]
Dr. Chu: Time's up, Dr. Quest! I will leave you alone with my pets!
Race: (with his gun and the door opened) Not so fast, pal. Don't you know it's bad manners to leave your guests all tied up? Untie him.
Dr. Quest: I was beginning to think you might not make it, Race.
Race: So did I, Doctor. The traffic was rather heavy.
Chu unties Quest.
Race: Maybe your host would like to trade places with you.
Dr. Quest: Not a bad idea, Race.
The guard shows up at gunpoint.
Guard: (speaking Chinese)
Dr. Chu: You've made a serious mistake, my friend when you overlooked the guard. Now you can both stay and entertain our little pets. We'll be leaving you now and...
Just then, a small thud is heard, shocking Chu. It's Jade who had knocked out the guard.
Jade: I'm disappointed in you, Race. I left you a note saying I'd handle this.
Race: You sure have, Jade. Good work.
Jade: Good work for nothing. Wait till you get my bill.
A crash is heard from the window.
Jade: It's Chu! (shoots outside the window) He got away!
Dr. Quest: We better get out of here, too.
The guard had recovered already and locks them from the inside.
Race: We're locked in. Look out!
The cages open, freeing the spider and lizard.
Dr. Quest: Quick, through the window! Out that way!
Before the lizard could get out, crashing is heard as debris from the ceiling falls. Quest and Jade close their eyes from the massacre. Then, the very bulldozer with the boys and Bandit are on has crashed through the lab. The spider that got out is now dead, hit by the vehicle, while the lizard, unseen, is crushed to death.
Jonny: Someone here called a cab?
Climax[]
The team are on the bulldozer, making their escape. The villains' gunfire bounces off the bulldozer as Race shoots back.
Race: We'll never make it back to the hydrofoil, Jonny.
Jade: Head for the pier. We'll borrow Chu's speedboat.
Race: Good thinking, Jade.
The team is now on Chu's speedboat as the villains pursue them.
Race: Keep up the speed, Doctor. We're almost out of rifle range.
Dr. Quest: But not out of cannon range.
Race: They're gaining on us, Doctor.
Dr. Quest: I'm giving it all I've got!
Jonny: Wow! That was close!
Hadji: Hey, what's that?
Another lizard appears, emerging from the sea, but this one is gargantuan. Chu and his minions stop at the sight of it.
Guard: (speaking Chinese in horror)
The lizard roars in terror as it chases the villains back to Moitu Island.
Jade: It's unbelievable!
The lizard continues its pursuit as the men reach to shore. As it gains closer, the men start shooting, but the bullets have no effect. When Chu comes to view in front a fence, the men can be heard screaming, having been devoured by the reptile.
Dr. Chu: No! No!
The lizard has now cornered him.
Dr. Chu: No! No!
A sign above him says DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE (危险 高压.../Wéixiǎn gāoyā...). The lizard is about to walk into some high voltage wires.
Jonny: He's walking right into the high voltage wire.
The lizard gets entangled as it reacts in pain at the high voltage. Chu screams in horror as the high voltage power station explodes, killing Chu and the lizard, including everyone and everything else left on the island. The team watch from afar.
Race: Well, that's the end of Chu Sing Ling.
Dr. Quest: And the end of a horrible experiment, I hope.
Ending[]
The team heads for home.
Race: If it hadn't been for Jade, we might never have gotten off that island. Jade, we're in your debt.
Jade: You'll get a bill.
Race: Well, I don't have any money with me, but uh... how about this for a down payment?
He and Jade share a romantic kiss, much to the boys' disgust.
Jonny: That's a good lesson for us, Hadji. When we grow up, everything's gonna be strictly cash.
