Paul Mornay is the descendant of Lady Caroline, who lived two hundred years earlier. When Jonny, Hadji, and Jessie come to Mornay Island, he invites them into his manor and tells them about the haunting and the tragic tale of his ancestor.
Paul Mornay was born in 1920, and he inherited Mornay Island and the manor there. He was an artist and kept an art studio in the manor. At first, he found the hauntings disturbing, but then found them inspirational, and he became interested in the history of his ancestor Lady Caroline. When he died in 1940, apparently his curiosity led him to remain a ghost as well. As a ghost, Mornay later tells Jonny, Jessie, and Hadji "that those who meet violent ends can become ghosts", suggesting he may have had a violent death as well.
When Jonny, Hadji, and Jessie come to Mornay Island, Paul invites them into the manor and tells them about the ghosts and their history. The ghost of Lady Caroline and her fiancé Jean Leger possess Jessie and Jonny, and Paul encourages them to find peace and end the vicious cycle of them reliving their deaths over and over. Caroline and Jean find forgiveness and can be at peace, and Paul tells Jonny, Jessie, and Hadji that now he can rest as well, and he tells they should leave the island before the fog clears. Paul disappears in the fog, and the trio find his grave, realizing that Paul was also a ghost.
Paul Mornay: "Now that I have learned the truth about my ancestor Caroline, I too can finally rest. The fog is lifting. If you want to leave, you must leave now."
