Joe Casey is an American comic book writer who co-created the 2024 Jonny Quest comic book series published by Dynamite Entertainment. He works with artist Sebastián Piriz.
General overview[]
Joe Casey is a prolific comic book writer. Prior to co-creating Jonny Quest, Joe Casey was well-known for his work on various high-profile comic books including Uncanny X-Men and Adventures of Superman, among others.
Joe Casey remembers Jonny Quest airing on Saturday mornings when he was a kid, and he liked that the show visually looked like a comic book. Casey also loved the Jonny Quest Comico comic book series from the 80s.[1]
In 2024, Dynamite Entertainment acquired licenses for multiple Hanna-Barbera properties, and they approached Joe Casey to see if he would be interested in working on a Jonny Quest comic book. Casey hadn't considered it before, but when he remembered the Jonny Quest Comico series and the things he loved about the show, he agreed.[1]
Joe Casey had a certain look for the comic in mind; he wanted art that invoked the original character designs by Doug Wildey and Alex Toth, but didn't just "regurgitate" it. Casey and his editor at Dynamite considered multiple artists, and they ended up reaching out to artist Sebastián Piriz, whom Casey didn't know.[1]
