He has limited supernatural abilities, allowing him to change probability of an outcome by using impossible methods for any regular person. Most commonly, he can levitate himself. Whether these skills are genuinely supernatural or just talented magician and sleight-of-hand tricks depends on the series. He is also talented in athletics and scientific research, with some skills in judo thanks to his lessons with Race alongside Jonny.

Hadji was an orphan on the streets of Calcutta, India. Pasha Peddler helped to look out for him, and he received an education from both Pasha as well as some US marines.

Despite being a main character in the original series, Hadji is notably absent from a lot of the early related content for the series. He is not represented in the 1964 board game, he's not in the 1965 audio episode, and he's not in either the Jonny Quest Annuals released in 1965 and 1966. Of the three Jonny Quest storybooks released in the early seventies, Hadji is absent in two of them, and in the third storybook he's notably included in far fewer images than the other main characters.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest[]

Hadji is named Hadji Singh in The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. In season one, his adopted status is downplayed and he is described as Dr. Quest's assistant, but in season two, it's again clear that he's Dr. Quest's adopted son. Hadji's mystical powers are also much more subtle, though it is shown his mother had the same skills. Season two also reveals he was actually an exiled prince and rightful heir to the throne as Sultan of the principality his father used to rule. Pasha was originally hired as an assassin to kill the toddler-aged prince Hadji, but couldn't go through with it and instead spirited the child to safety as his protector. The trauma and his young age meant Hadji didn't remember until a machine made by Dr. Quest helped his memory.
